If you want to get traffic, you first have to have a page that people are going to be happy to recommend to their friends:
- A lesson or some really useful tips and tricks on how to do something better than the rest.
- A funny or inspiring video or image. Make sure it is buzzworthy.
- A Compilation of really useful information or links
- A well written article that grabs a reader’s attention
- A unique website idea
- Training or instructions on how to do something people are wanting to learn.
- A collection of free ebooks, music etc.
Once you have one of these types of websites, create a StumbleUpon account and vote for your own website. Once you cast that first vote, StumbleUpon will send others to that site. If your site is worthy of additional votes, you will suddenly find yourself inundated with free visitors that you didn’t have to go out looking for.
A good idea is to include a line of text somewhere above the fold that says “If you liked this page, please give it a Stumble! Thank you!”
If you want to increase your visits by StumbleUpon visitors, use your website url in your profile name and in your profile description. That way, when you vote up some previously unstumbled websites, your profile will be shown as the person who has discovered that property and you will get additional traffic.
If you create a couple of additional profiles that are more generic, you can use them to keep building your own traffic, by stumbling upon your own site once a week. You can also add friends and tell them about pages you’d like them to vote for and they can do the same to you.
But for StumbleUpon to work for your website, you must have constructed it properly to begin with.
1. Keep the most interesting images and headlines above the fold, since it only takes seconds for someone to push the stumble button again. You want to captivate your visitor to get them to stay a little longer.
2. Titles should draw the visitor into your page. Headlines and titles are important because those are the first things a visitor usually sees. Use the law of completeness to make someone want to stay…
You start a phrase in the title and promise the reader that they will find out the rest if they read on. “The Three Most Powerful Words That Guarantee People Will Buy Your Product Are…”
3. Use powerful images to hook your readers as they are stumbling by.
With the above steps in place you can use StumbleUpon to make your own website a popular place to visit. If you are only trying to get people to your site for Adsense or affiliate commissions, then you really need to design your pages for maximum stickiness, since people will not stay very long if you have a boring website.

Another good strategy to get traffic back to your website is to post comments to blogs that are about your topic. Commenting on blogs that are not related can cause you to be seen as a spammer, but if the topic of the post relates back to your expertise, then by all means comment on a post. Make an educated comment that shows you as an expert or at least educated in that topic and then add your link. Most blogs have a place to add your URL right in the comment form. This is good for associating your name with your topic, too!
Some of my blogs are:
Resolve To Succeed Now – Where I discuss success principals in everyday life.
Micheal Savoie Welcomes You – Where I discuss what is going on and the lessons that I get from my involvement in them.
Your Directory Website Blog – This blog talks about traffic and how to get more of it.
Product In A Weekend – I discuss product creation methods, tools and tricks.
If you are interested in any of the above topics or you are an expert, feel free to post comments on these blogs and I will approve them if they are relevant to the discussion. Traffic is too vital not to share it with those who add value.
Have an amazing day!
Micheal Savoie
PS – Grab 12 of the hottest products with sales pages and resale rights and a page where you can sell them all as a One Time Offer together. This is a great thing to place as a OTO after someone signs up for your newsletter. You can get paid for building your list. Truly a win-win situation.
PPS – I want to thank Liz Tomey and her husband Jamie Bing for spending time with me at jvAlert, helping me plan out my strategy for getting out from under my job. With the strategy in place, I will be free before this year is out. Look for the retirement video when I work my last day!
